Transportation Tools to Improve Children’s Health and Mobility
Our children’s health and mobility are at risk. The number of children walking or bicycling to school is dramatically lower than forty year ago. Produced in 2001, the “Transportation Tools to Improve Children’s Health and Mobility” fact sheet (PDF, 1.1 MB) has been designed especially for transportation professionals. It contains eight pages of problem-solving methods and practical solutions endorsed by transportation planners and traffic engineers who have been conducting safe routes to school projects throughout California. It focuses on alleviating transportation problems in communities through a combination of education, enforcement and engineering solutions.

The fact sheet was co-sponsored by the California Office of Traffic Safety, the Safe Routes to School Initiative at the California Department of Health Services, and the Local Government Commission.
