This 3-day seminar brought together teams from 7 different states for a highly interactive series of discussions, presentations, and peer-to-peer exchanges. The seminar offered an excellent opportunity for participants to form and cultivate partnerships to explore the mutual challenges and interactions for economic and community development and the provision of transportation facilities and services.
In order for a State Department of Transportation (DOT) to develop a fully integrated land use and transportation program, it must promote the integration of land use and transportation in a coordinated effort at three levels: State-wide Policies and Actions; Regional Coordination Responsibilities; and Project Delivery and Implementation Practices. Many States have developed components of the entire process that can provide insight and guidance for other States interested in developing an integrated land use and transportation program. State teams had the opportunity to highlight what they are doing to integrate transportation and land use, as well as learn from other States.
This seminar was produced by the Local Government Commission (LGC) and Glatting Jackson Kercher Anglin Lopez Rinehart, Inc. under contract to the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP), Project 20-24(45). The NCHRP is managed by the Transportation Research Board (TRB) of the National Academies and sponsored by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
