California Residential Retrofits; Ten Important Lessons Learned
When I first read the article, California Residential Retrofits; Ten Important Lessons Learned, written by Mark Berman and Vicki Mongan of Davis Energy Group, I was impressed by the similarity of the conclusions they reached in Stockton with what I had learned working on residential retrofits in the southern San Joaquin Valley. It did not seem to matter what community we were working in, the challenges of convincing homeowners to invest in energy efficiency upgrades were the same.
The article is an interesting read and provides good details about the Stockton program, reasoning behind the project highlighted, technology used, and lessons learned. Since it was written in November, 2013, there have been some further encouraging developments in the residential retrofit market. Residential PACE (Property Assessed Clean Energy) financing programs such as HERO, Ygrene, and others are expanding across California, and refinements continue to be made in the Energy Upgrade California residential energy efficiency rebate program to make it more attractive to a wider range of homeowners. Both of these activities have resulted in thousands of new home energy efficiency retrofit projects as homeowners across the State begin to recognize the value of energy efficiency and take action similar to the project highlighted in California Residential Retrofits; Ten Important Lessons Learned.
